The Tale of Tsar Saltan

Alexander Pushkin

Book Description

The Tale of Tsar Saltan is a famous Russian fairy tale written by Alexander Pushkin, blending magic, adventure, and themes of loyalty and justice. The story begins with three sisters discussing what they would do if the Tsar married them. The youngest promises to bear him a brave son, which leads Tsar Saltan to marry her. However, the jealous elder sisters and their accomplice plot against her. When the Tsarina gives birth to a son, Prince Gvidon, the envious sisters deceive the Tsar by sending false messages, leading him to believe that his wife has given birth to a monster. As a result, the Tsarina and her child are sealed in a barrel and cast into the sea. Miraculously, they survive and wash ashore on a magical island. As Prince Gvidon grows, he saves a magical swan, who turns out to be an enchanted princess. With her help, he creates a magnificent kingdom on the island. Disguised as a mosquito, Gvidon visits his father’s court and ensures that the truth about his mother is gradually revealed. In the end, Tsar Saltan discovers the deception, punishes the wrongdoers, and is joyfully reunited with his wife and son. The tale celebrates truth, patience, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. The book is copyright free and can be downloaded without any cost.
